Common Myths and Misconceptions

Financial Planning is Expensive

When you decide to see a financial planner, it's really an investment in your future and if you look at it that way, it is less expensive than you think. For example, a financial planner can help you to improve your cash flow through better budgeting, reduce your tax liabilities, boost investment returns, and protect you from a costly financial disaster through the application of insurance or other defensive measures. Sound financial advice can provide you with the foundations you need for a secure financial future.

As qualified professionals, we charge fees for our service. Your initial meeting is free of charge and our fees are fully explained before you make any commitment.

We are committed to complete transparency, honesty and integrity in everything we do. Ultimately, your complete satisfaction with the services we provide is our primary aim.  See also our page about getting advice.

Financial Planning is only for the Wealthy

Not at all!  Financial planning is a journey, not a destination. Financial planning can be an effective means of creating wealth even if you are only starting out. You actually don’t need a lot of money to begin planning for a secure financial future. A financial planner can help you to protect your current income and assets, and structure an investment strategy to suit your budget and lifestyle. A small sum invested now, and built on slowly over time, can form the basis of long-term wealth. Regardless of your income level, sound financial advice from a qualified professional can help you to make the most of your earnings, minimise your taxation burden and plan for a secure, comfortable retirement.

Our philosophy is that small changes that you make today to your financial affairs can reap huge benefits in the future. Just as a pebble cast into the water creates ripples that expand wider and wider, so can your financial independence. Having discipline and commitment is all you need.

Financial Planners are only interested in selling their own products

Blue Edge Financial Planning was borne out of the bad experience the principal had having needed a financial planner herself 20 years ago.  Not being owned by a bank of financial institution there is no pressure to sell a product. Vowing to provide the kind of service that we expected from our experience, Blue Edge charge fees directly to you, the client.  If we recommend a product or service, it is because we believe that particular strategy is the best solution to meet your financial objectives. We are not compelled to recommend any particular product or service, and only recommend strategies which have the best possible outcome for you, our client, as the principal driving purpose and objective.

There are too many hidden fees and charges

At Blue Edge, we are completely transparent in our dealings with clients and maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity in everything we do. There are no hidden fees or unexpected surprises.  All of our fees are discussed with you and fully disclosed.

Ultimately, our commitment to you, our client, is to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the solutions and services we provide. We operate on a fee-for-service basis for the initial advice and ongoing services provided to our clients.

While we prefer to be paid on a fee-for-service basis, we offer our clients flexible payment options for our advice and services. You may choose to pay via hourly fee-for-service basis, pay us a commission or a combination of both. In either case, fees will be agreed with you before we proceed with your work.

I can manage my finances on my own

Many people often feel they are capable of managing their finances on their own. While this may hold true for managing day-to-day expenses and paying bills, your long-term financial security requires careful planning and a holistic approach. Otherwise you may not have sufficient wealth or financial resources in the future to enjoy the lifestyle you are accustomed to today. The value of professional advice in planning for a secure financial future should not be underestimated. You may wish to read this case study.
